MODELING THE EXCESS PROPERTIES OF AQUEOUS SYSTEMS WITH THE PITZER MODEL: APPLICATION TO THE NaOH-H2O BINARY SYSTEM

Résumé

The excess properties of saline solutions (excess enthalpy Hex, excess heat capacity Cpex, excess volume Vex, osmotic coefficient and activity coefficient ) have to be known for designing industrial processes because they control solid-liquid equilibria, energy balances, etc. in wide ranges of temperature and pressure. Such properties can be computed from the derivatives of the excess Gibbs energy of the solution (see Figure 1). For calculating the excess Gibbs energy of a saline solution, several models exist in the literature (Pitzer, eNRTL, LIQUAC …). In the present study, we apply the Pitzer-like equations to the NaOH-H2O system which is of great interest for industrial systems.
